In a scene that reflects the durability of military cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States of America, yesterday, the modern American combat ship “USS Cancer” (LCS-30) was established at the headquarters of the Fifth American Fleet in Juffair, as part of a strategic operational mission to enhance maritime security in the Arab Gulf region, in the presence of the Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Dhiab bin Saqr Al-Nuaimi, and a number of senior Bahraini Royal Navy officers.
Canebera is one of the latest naval pieces in the US Navy, where she entered service in 2023, and belongs to the category of “independence”, which represents the new generation of coastal fighting ships, and is characterized by a speed of more than 40 knots, high capabilities on maneuvering, and flexible armament, as well as equipping them with the latest fighting, monitoring systems and advanced radars, which makes them eligible to carry out multiple tasks accurately and quickly.
American ambassador:
The presence of the navy is a message of commitment
The American ambassador to Bahrain, Stephen C. Bondi on the sidelines of the occasion: “The presence of the US Navy in the region, with this level of readiness, is a clear message to the United States’ commitment to support its partners and allies in the Arab Gulf region.”
He added, “We do not work on our own, but rather in a framework of partnership, cooperation and joint action, and our military relationship with Bahrain embodies an advanced model of defensive alliances.”
Captain Golden: “Canberra” is an advanced platform for smart deterrence
In an interview with the media, the captain of the captain Bill Golden confirmed that the mission of the main ship in the region is to combat marine mines, stressing that the new technology carried by the ship allows the task with high efficiency while reducing risks to the life of the sailor.
He said: “We launch a self -operating vehicle from the back of the ship, which works independently in monitoring and neutralizing marine mines, which achieves the target without endangering the ship’s crew.”
Golden added that the ship has the capabilities of other tasks such as the surface war, reconnaissance, and securing vital marine corridors to ensure the continued flow of trade and energy from the Gulf to the world.
On the adaptation of the ship with the nature of the region, the captain explained that “Canberra” is characterized by a small brutal and high ability to maneuver, which makes it able to work near the oil platforms and in shallow waters, unlike destroyers or larger ships with a deep invalid.
A solid partnership and an extended survival
Asked about the period of the ship staying in the region, the captain said: “I do not have an accurate history of departure, but it will remain here for several months,” explaining that the United States is committed to the continuation of this presence, whether through “Canberra” or any other ship with similar capabilities.
He stressed that the American maritime presence in the Gulf reflects a long -term commitment to the security and stability of the region, noting that the potential threats that the ship is preparing to deal with includes unconventional and multi -faceted threats, especially those related to mine cultivation or obstruction of navigation.
A name that honors alliances
One of the most prominent aspects of this ship is that it is the first American ship to be launched in a country of an ally – Australia – and bears the name of its capital, “Canberra, in a gesture that reflects the durability of the historical defense relationship between the two countries, and an advanced industrial partnership.

“USS Canberra” is not just a sophisticated naval piece, but rather a shift in the concept of smart marine deterrence, and an affirmation that the security of the Arabian Gulf has the protection of firm alliances, advanced military capabilities, and technology capable of responding to any threat.
