“Bahrain Space” is a major spokesperson for the “importance of national space laws”

The Bahrain Space Agency participated as an official spokesman for the launching of the Space and Legislative Law Committee in the Middle East of the Arab Federation for Space and Astronomy, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hamid Mujul Al -Nuaimi – President of the Arab Federation for Space and Astronomy.

The event witnessed the participation of a group of policy makers, legal experts and academics from various Arab countries, where they dealt with several important issues, among them, the role of the Middle East in space governance at the international level, the possibility of benefiting from legal frameworks to support strategic opportunities to enhance the position of Arab countries in the developed space sector, and the role of space laws in drawing a future space future that emphasizes strengthening international cooperation.

During her representation of the agency in this important event, Professor Rasha Al -Amad, Head of Strategic Planning, presented a presentation that highlights the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in establishing a national organizational framework for space, and how this effort can contribute to the formation of the future of space governance throughout the Arab world, in line with the importance of space governance frameworks, concluding the show by providing inspiring visions of Arab countries in formulating their own national regulations.

On this participation, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al -Asiri, CEO of Bahrain Space Agency said: “This participation comes within the framework of the Bahrain Space Agency’s endeavor to enhance awareness about the importance of space laws in the Arab region, and to exchange experiences and knowledge with bodies, institutions and centers concerned with the space sector, and in accordance with the goals of the strategic agency. This participation is an opportunity to communicate and an important step towards achieving these goals, and enhancing the Kingdom’s position in Arab space societies.”

For her part, Professor Rasha Al -Amad explained: “The global space sector is witnessing a rapid development! What was the preserve of the great powers has now become a dynamic system that includes many countries, private companies, emerging companies, and academic institutions. It has also become known that the legal organization is no longer just an organized action, but it has become the basis for innovation, investment, safety and international cooperation. Therefore, the Kingdom has written a line. Fixed towards governance, starting with the establishment of the agency with a royal decree, ratification of international treaties of the United Nations Office for outer Space Affairs, and entering international agreements to enhance responsible governance of space activities, such as Artemis Conventions, to the formulation of the National Space Law that regulates, but not limited to, aspects of licensing, responsibility, insurance, use of the spectrum, Country.

It is worth noting that the Arab Federation of Space and Astronomy was established in 1998 in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and aims to raise the affair of astronomical and space sciences and to advance its level in the Arab world in an active manner through organizing workshops and seminars that enhance communication and exchange of knowledge between specialists, researchers and academics in the field of space and astronomy, as it seeks to enhance cooperation with higher education institutions and astronomical bodies to support scientific research.
