The Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, described the period witnessed by the Arab region as the most difficult in 100 years, saying: “The Arab countries are going through the most difficult hundred years.”
Aboul Gheit: The region suffers from external interventions from regional countries
He added, during a meeting with the media, Lamis Al -Hadidi, in the program of a final word, in his review of the conditions to which the region is exposed: “I am 82 years old, and I have not seen in the last seventy years Arab countries on the lips of loss, and another with civil wars.”
He continued: “I have not seen a situation in which the Palestinian issue is characterized by this huge challenge, nor has I not monitored for 50 years Israel with this amount of brutality in the region.”
He stated that many compare what happened in 1967 and what is happening now, saying: “A war of 67 represented a frightening defeat for the Arab world, and the Arab countries at that time were severely struck, but it was able, at least in the next period and over several years, to respond to Israel.”
He continued: “For example, and not limited to, Egypt has done a major military action against Israel and regained all Egyptian lands, which were completely restored.”
He explained that in the current situation, a state like Syria, which lost the Golan in 1967, lost more lands with an Israeli, illegal and illegal presence in Jabal Al -Sheikh and the south of the Syrian front, and this is an uncomfortable situation.
He added: “Sudan also lives a civil war, and Iraq is now only out of the effects of its occupation in 2003, as is the case in Libya that have two governments, Yemen that has an illegal group and a legitimate government and suffers a division.”
He stressed that the region suffers from external interventions from regional countries and large countries such as Iran, for example.
In response to Al -Hadidi’s question: Will all of these conditions be present on the agenda of the Baghdad Summit No. 34? He said: Indeed, you will be present on the agenda of the Arab summit in Baghdad. It is an ordinary summit that has an agenda, and therefore it is not exceptional related to one topic, and it will not be limited to the Palestinian issue, because the “Palestine” summit was held twice in 12 months in Riyadh and Cairo.
Al -Hadidi asked: What do we expect from this summit? To reply: “Just a meeting of Arab leaders to discuss their conditions represents a message that the Arabs exist, and that the Arab countries, which extend east and west by a distance and travel time exceeding 13 hours from Muscat to Agadir in Morocco, are present.”
