In the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and in the framework of the official visit of His Highness to sister Malaysia, it was announced that Malaysia was given the right to sovereignty over the data of subscribers in the cloud computing centers in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
On this occasion, Muhammad Ali, the leader, the CEO of the Information and Electronic Government Authority, praised the growth and development of Bahraini -Malaysian relations in various sectors, especially in the field of technical cooperation, digital economy, exchanging experiences, and the development of digital infrastructure.
He also stressed the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance international cooperation in the fields of communications and information technology, and work to develop the digital system in a way that keeps pace with aspirations, and enhances the Kingdom’s competitiveness regionally and internationally and reflects the legislative and technical efficiency enjoyed by the Kingdom of Bahrain in managing and operating cloud computing services.
The CEO of the Information and E -Government Authority stressed that this step comes within the framework of strengthening the close cooperation relations between the two brotherly countries, and as an extension of the strategic partnership that is characterized by mutual trust and joint understanding.
This decision also reflects the keenness to consolidate the principles of transparency and national sovereignty in dealing with data, by adhering to the highest legislative and regulatory standards, and in a way that supports ambitious trends towards accelerating digital transformation, and developing a safe and reliable digital infrastructure that preserves rights, and respects the privacy of data, in line with national legislation and best global practices.
He explained that this procedure comes in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. (56) of 2018 regarding the provision of cloud computing services to foreign parties and relevant ministerial decisions, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain was a pioneer in setting a clear legislative framework to regulate the hosting of foreign data on its soil while ensuring the rights of countries that owe these data.
