A new study revealed that the deaths resulting from Cancer An alcohol intake is witnessing a noticeable increase in the United States in recent decades, and the number of alcohol -related deaths has almost doubled from about 12,000 cases in 1990 to more than 23,000 cases in 2021, according to what was published in the New York Post.
A height of cancer deaths due to alcohol
The study showed that men over the age of 55 are most at risk of death due to alcohol -related cancer, while women recorded a slight increase by 8% in these deaths during the same period, the death rate among men increased by a shocking rate of 56%.
Dr. Chenemi Jani, chief hematologist and tumor, at the Silvercter Cancer Center at the University of Miami, said that the high death rate among men is not surprising, but it raises concern due to the big difference compared to women.
He pointed out that the reason is that men start alcohol consumption at an early age and its cumulative effects on health over time.
Alcohol was classified as a carcinogen from the first group by the International Agency for Cancer Research, and its consumption is associated with several types of cancer, including oral cancer, sore throat, esophagus, liver, colon and breast, until eating alcohol in moderate quantities may increase the risk of cancer, which challenges the prevailing idea that the light consumption of alcohol is not harmful.
Despite these facts, public awareness of the relationship between alcohol and cancer is still low. Where a report by the American Cancer Research Association showed in 2024 that more than 5% of all cancer cases are caused by alcohol consumption, while 51% of Americans do not realize these risks.
The researchers and health officials called for the need to raise the level of awareness about the dangers of alcohol, by imposing warning posters on alcoholic beverages and increasing health education programs in society, stressing the importance of bridging the gap in knowledge between the public and health professionals on these serious risks.
