The American newspaper “Wall Street” reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump is ready to discuss the reduction of sanctions on Syria if it is committed to combating terrorism.
US officials said that the Trump administration is calling for the Syrian government to take steps that also include securing the country’s chemical weapons stocks, adding that the United States will consider in return the renewal of a limited exemption from sanctions with the aim of accelerating the flow of aid to the country.

The United States has started withdrawing hundreds of forces from northeastern Syria, according to the American newspaper “New York Times” on Thursday.
The New York Times reported, quoting US officials, that the American army began (Thursday), withdrawing hundreds of soldiers from northeastern Syria, and is working to close three of its eight military bases there.
The officials said that the US military will reduce the number of its forces in Syria from two thousand soldiers to about 1,400, and after two months, the leaders will assess the possibility of making additional discounts in the number of members of the forces.
She added, quoting an American official, that the American leaders recommended to keep at least 500 soldiers in Syria, noting that the withdrawal of soldiers is based on the recommendations of field commanders to close the rules and reinforcement of others, which are the recommendations that obtained the approval of the Ministry of Defense (the Pentagon) and the US Central Command.
Two senior officials said that the remaining forces, which include traditional soldiers and private forces, will continue to provide assistance to the “Syrian Democratic Forces” in the anti -terrorism operations, and in the management of several detention camps in Syria.
Sources revealed to the American newspaper that ISIS launched hundreds of attacks in Syria during the past year, achieving a significant increase in its activity compared to 2023.
Late last year, the United States announced that its army almost doubled the number of its land forces in Syria to reach two thousand soldiers, to help deal with the increasing threat of ISIS, and the armed factions backed by Iran that attacked American bases in parallel with the Gaza war.
