Tunis Africa News Agency reported that a Tunisian court issued a prison sentence ranging from 13 and 66 years of opposition leaders, businessmen, and lawyers, on charges of conspiracy against state security, according to Reuters.
40 people, including senior politicians, businessmen, and media, are prosecuted in the case, which is known as the “conspiracy issue”, which are the most controversial issues in Tunisia, while more than 20 of them have fled abroad since they were charged.
Some of the defendants are the leaders of the opposition, including Ghazi Al -Shawashi, Issam Al -Shabi, Jawhar bin Mubarak, Abdul Hamid Al -Jalasi, Reza Al -Hajj and Al -Turki’s tents, in prison since their arrest in 2023.
Before the judge’s decision, the court hall was evacuated in preparation for the deliberation, the issuance of the rulings, and dozens of lawyers began to protest, and they chanted slogans calling for freedom and justice.
Lawyer Ahmed Al -Sawab told reporters: “Throughout my life, I have not seen a trial like this. It is a farce, the rulings are ready, what happens a scandal, and a stigma. ”
Friday, journalists and civil society organizations were prevented from attending the trial.
Activists and families of the accused gathered near the headquarters of the Tunis Court, raising slogans, including: “They released the prisoners”, “Stop the farce”, and “freedoms not to spend the instructions.”
“The conspiracy issue is a farce,” said Hama Al -Hammami, the leader of the opposition “Workers” party, who was among those present to support the accused.
During a campaign launched by the Tunisian authorities, the defendants were arrested in 2023, and they were imprisoned on charges of “forming a terrorist agreement to overthrow the President (Tunisian) Qais Saeed, conspiring the security of the state, and trying to carry out terrorist crimes”, in addition to financial corruption cases.
