Merchants expected that the demand for sacrifices for this year will decrease in half, due to the reasons for this to the coincidence of Eid al -Adha with the summer vacation, which witnesses the return of a large percentage of residents to their country to seize this long vacation, while they indicated that it expects to return the import of sheep from Syria after allowing this from Jordan.
The livestock merchant Ali Al -Fadala explained that he imports sheep from several countries, including Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Jordan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and soon Syria, after the approval of the Jordanian authorities as a transit country, indicating that traders in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have already started importing more than 30 thousand heads through the port of Tartous to the port of Yanbu, and this quantity reached the end of the month of Ramadan, while the import of Bahrain needs to transport the land Through Jordan; Therefore, no sheep from Syria are expected to arrive in Bahrain before Eid al -Adha.
The livestock dealer, Ali Dunou, explained the delay in allowing the livestock of Syria to pass through Jordan, that Jordan has its trade with the Gulf states, and perhaps a segment of the market will lose in the event of allowing the transit of Syrian shipments, and therefore it is expected that Jordan will not allow this or may impose compensatory fees.
On the expected quantities for this year, Ali Al -Fadalah explained that the orders are arranged before the month of Ramadan due to the presence of the stone period in the exporting country for a period of 21 days, and the merchant may wait for his role in reserving the quarry for that period, and he expected that the demand will decrease for more than half this year, due to the stability of the situation in several countries in the region, which will lead to the return of residents in Bahrain to their countries to spend the feast between the family and seize the opportunity of the summer vacation that coincides with Eid Al -Adha, and he said that the sacrifices in the country of these residents are usually cheaper compared to Bahrain’s prices, and therefore many will prefer to buy sacrifices from their countries.
Adel Al -Farsani, the owner of a farm, warned of the influence of “the globalization of the sacrifice”, where Bahraini can cooperate with associations to buy a sacrifice and slaughter it in a poor country, and it may not cost him more than 15-25 dinars.
However, Ali Duno differed on the opinion about the prices, indicating that his company imported 4 thousand heads coming on the road, and stressed that the sacrifices do not decrease the demand for it, but on the contrary, it rises annually, because the supply is low from demand; Because of the deaths of livestock and the high population, he said: “Last year witnessed a price crisis due to the scarcity of quantities, but we do not know what will happen this year, especially since schools will close their doors before the Eid, and this may raise the demand.”
In turn, Al -Fadala indicated that his company was importing from Somalia between 15 – 20 thousand sheep heads, and from the Sultanate of Oman and Iran, not exceeding 7 thousand Arab sheep, while between 2000 – 3000 heads of cows from Africa is imported, indicating that the demand for sheep is the highest.
