Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Mr. Philip Babetet, Minister of Higher Education and Research, witnessed the signing ceremony of renewing the cooperation agreement between the Science, Technology and Innovation Finance Authority (STDF) and the French embassy in Egypt.
The France Finance and Innovation Authority is the renewal of scientific partnership
The agreement was signed by the Egyptian side, Dr. Walaa Sheta, CEO of the Authority and the French side Eric Chevalier, France’s ambassador to Egypt and in the presence of senior officials from both sides, and a number of heads of universities and Egyptian and French research centers during the official activities of the French French Conference for Scientific and University Cooperation held at Cairo University
This renewal comes as a continuation of fruitful cooperation between the two sides, which started since 2014, as it resulted in the financing of strategic research projects in areas of common priority such as health, agriculture, food, energy, engineering sciences, information and communication technology
Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed that the renewal of this agreement embodies the directives of the political leadership towards enhancing international cooperation in the field of scientific research, and opens new horizons for Egyptian researchers to cooperate with their counterparts in France, in a way that contributes to the advancement of applied scientific research and its outputs to serve sustainable development in Egypt.
Dr. Ayman pointed out that the scientific partnership between Egypt and France is a model for fruitful cooperation in facing common challenges, foremost of which is climate change, food security, and clean energy, explaining that these initiatives enhance Egypt’s position as a regional center for innovation
For his part, Dr. Walaa Sheta, CEO of the Authority, expressed his pride in the distinguished partnership with the French side, stressing that the new stage of cooperation will provide greater opportunities to finance distinguished projects that focus on the priorities of both sides, and contribute to building research capabilities for young researchers, and enhancing the role of scientific research in addressing societal and development challenges.
He pointed out that the renewal of the agreement is a clear message that scientific research in Egypt is moving at a confident pace towards globalization, driven by a national vision based on international innovation and partnership, which comes within the basic axes in the authority’s strategy, which is based on supporting excellence, competitiveness, and sustainability in the science, technology and innovation system.
