The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced, on Tuesday, the arrest of one of the most prominent Air Force officers in the Bashar al -Assad regime, and said that it was “involved in war crimes against civilians.”
The ministry confirmed in a statement published on its Facebook page, on Tuesday, that “the Latakia Security Directorate arrested the criminal Brigadier Sultan Al -Tinawi, one of the most prominent air intelligence officers, who was involved in war crimes against civilians, including a massacre in the Jiroud area in Damascus countryside in July 2016.”
She added that Al -Tinawi “held the position of coordination official between leaders of the Lebanese Hezbollah and a number of sectarian groups in Syria, and contributed to providing support for them.”
She pointed out that he was “referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the investigations and legal procedures against him.”
The authorities in Syria are launching extensive security campaigns, to control the symbols of the previous regime who say they are involved in crimes during the past years.
