The Municipal Council of Muharraq received a response from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture regarding the recommendation made by the Council previously regarding the installation of lighting poles along the 607 road in the 206th complex in Muharraq, where the Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, confirmed in his response, that the ministry has finished coordination with both the Electricity and Water Authority and the Ministry of Works, to determine responsibilities and specializations related to the installation of lighting poles.
He explained that the installation of lighting poles in the internal streets implemented by the Ministry of Works is considered one of the responsibilities of the ministry, as well as the modern streets that bear the symbol Iuwr, which will be within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Works as well. As for the maintenance of lighting poles in all regions of the Kingdom, the response confirmed that it falls within the responsibilities of the Electricity and Water Authority.
With regard to financing the installation of additional lighting columns in the old areas that need to strengthen lighting, the Undersecretary indicated that coordination was made with the Ministry of Finance and the National Economy to allocate a budget for this purpose within the budget of municipal affairs 2025-2026, provided that coordination with the Municipal Council is later on the mechanism for receiving requests and setting priorities, after the approval and approval of the state’s general budget.
For his part, a member of the Muharraq Municipal Council, representative of the sixth district, Fadel Al -Oud, commented on the response, saying: “Until now, the authority responsible for installing lighting poles is still unclear to us, despite the submission of many requests, we have not seen any solutions on the ground. In my department personally, I asked to install only one lighting pole, and it has not been installed until today.”
Al -Oud called on the concerned authorities such as the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the Electricity and Water Authority for field descending and participating in a field -determination field that needs lighting, and to determine the needs of citizens directly.
