The Ministry of Health and Population announced the provision of services of the President’s initiative for early detection of cancerous tumors (lung, prostate, colon, cervix) for 10 million and 247 thousand citizens free of charge, since its launch in June 2023, and until today, under the slogan of 100 million health.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, stressed that the results of the questionnaire devoted to determining the risk factors for tumors, through which patients are referred to conducting advanced tests and starting the appropriate treatment, as the initiative targets citizens from the age of 18 years and more, with the aim of detecting tumors in the early stages, which contributes to reducing the percentage of deaths caused by the disease, and reducing the material burden caused by the diagnosis of tumors in Late stages, as well as a service to stop smoking.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that obtaining the initiative services begins with the citizen’s approach to the health unit, and full of a questionnaire that includes a number of questions about the pathological symptoms of all tumors covered by the initiative, and through the result of the questionnaire is the knowledge of the target disease to be detected by the citizen.
He continued, after determining the target disease to be detected by the citizen, it is transferred to the hospitals that work within the initiative, to conduct the necessary rays and laboratory checks, and in a negative examination of the examination, the citizen is informed of the periodic follow -up of his health condition according to the type of tumor targeted to detect it, but in the case of positive examinations, the patient is presented to a multidisciplinary committee to take the necessary treatment decision.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the initiative and referral of patients are carried out through an electronic system linking health units, medical convoys and hospitals, with the electronic system for the questionnaire, to facilitate the access of citizens to the initiative services.
