The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had summoned the Chinese ambassador, on Tuesday, to express its “great concern” regarding information about the involvement of Chinese fighters in the Russian army and to provide Chinese companies in support of Moscow in making military equipment.
A statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that “the Deputy Foreign Minister of Perippines stressed that the involvement of Chinese citizens in hostile actions against Ukraine alongside the aggressor, as well as the involvement of Chinese companies in producing military equipment in Russia, raises great concern and contradicts the spiritual partnership between Ukraine and China.”
On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Foludmir Zellinski said that Chinese citizens were working on a site to produce drones in Russia, and hinted that Moscow may have “stole” technology for marches from China.
Last week, Zellinski stated that China is providing Russia with weapons and gunpowder, the first time that it has publicly accused the world’s second largest economy of providing direct military assistance to Moscow, and China has strongly denied these accusations.
And by noting that Russia may have obtained the technology of marches from China without Beijing’s knowledge, Zelinski seemed to relieve his accent towards China, which says it is being neutral towards war in Ukraine.
Zelinski said earlier this month that Russia recruited Chinese on social media to fight among its soldiers, and that Chinese officials are aware of this.
He added that Kyiv is trying to evaluate whether the recruits are receiving instructions from Beijing.
While China confirmed its support for peace efforts in Ukraine and said that the parties concerned should avoid “irresponsible statements”, in a clear reprimand after Zellinski made his comments about Chinese fighting in favor of Russia.
