The newspaper “Israel Hume” revealed, on Monday, quoting a senior security official, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to end the war in Gaza by next October, considering that this date represents the “maximum” of the end of military operations.
The official said in statements made during closed talks, that the end of the military operation may take place before this date, provided that field conditions are prepared and strategic goals are achieved.
He pointed out that the logic that governs this timing is not to allow the war to continue for a period exceeding two years.
In a related context, an Israeli political source stressed Tel Aviv’s refusal of any proposals that included the survival of Hamas as an armed force in the Gaza Strip.
The source told reporters that “Israel has not resorted to a comprehensive ceasefire until now, but rather preferred gradual steps, with the aim of allowing the negotiations to liberate the hostages.”
He added: “We are seeking to exhaust all possible efforts to reach a deal, and this is what affects the style of operations. But our patience is not without limits.”
Egyptian and Qatari brokers had proposed a new formula to stop the war in Gaza, a senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations of the BBC (BBC) stated.
According to the official, the proposal includes a truce that lasts between 5 and 7 years, and the release of all Israeli hostages, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, the official end of the war, and the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
The official pointed out that Hamas expressed its willingness to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to “any Palestinian entity agreed upon at the national and regional levels.”
On Monday, the Civil Defense in Gaza reported that at least 16 people were killed in Israeli raids separately on the Strip since dawn, most of them died in targeting a house in Jabalia.
The total death toll in the Gaza Strip has increased since the war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023 to at least 52314, according to the Ministry of Health in the Strip.
The war erupted in Gaza after a surprise attack by Hamas in southern Israel, killing 1218 people, most of them civilians, according to the outcome of France Press based on official Israeli numbers.
