On Thursday, the Israeli authorities released the Palestinian youth, Ahmed Manasra, after spending more than nine years in prison, against the background of his conviction while he was minor to participate in a stabbing process that occurred in 2015 in East Jerusalem.
Manasrah was 13 years old when he was arrested, and he was convicted of an attempt to kill two Israelis, in an accident carried out in cooperation with his cousin, who died on the same site.
According to his lawyer Nariman Shehadeh Zoubi, a member of the legal team at the Adalah Center, Manasra was officially released, where he met his family as soon as he left, noting that his release came after the completion of the period of the ruling that was reduced from 12 years to nine and a half years, by a decision of the Israeli Supreme Court.
A supporter case had sparked widespread controversy, due to his young age at the time of the incident, and coincided with Israeli legal amendments that later allowed the trial of children under the age of twelve on charges that are classified under the item of “terrorist crimes”.
During his imprisonment, Manasra was exposed to difficult health and psychological conditions, as he spent nearly two years in solitary confinement, which prompted human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, to express its concern about his psychological state.
It is noteworthy that the appeal incident in which it was condemned was condemned, in the settlement of the Zeev Asif in East Jerusalem, and was at the time the beginning of a wave of individual attacks that the region witnessed during that period.
