The World Trade Organization expected that the customs duties announced by the United States on April 2, as well as its counterpart since the beginning of 2025, would lead to a contraction of about 1% in the total global trade volume of commodities this year.

Oldo-Iyala concluded that the organization’s secretariat is monitoring and closely analyzing the measures announced by the United States, and called on the members to manage the pressure resulting with responsibilities, to prevent the worsening of trade tensions.
The new customs duties have increased the investor concerns about the occurrence of economic recession, which may weaken the demand for loans and increase the cases of failure to pay, which will harm the profitability of banks, and the weakness of the economy may negatively affect the activity of integration and acquisition.
