Representative Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al -Shuwaikh stressed that the legislative authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain continues its efforts to update legislation that enhances the rights of children, and limits the risks they face, praising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to implementing international agreements concerned with children’s rights, as well as its keenness to join many treaties that enhance the basic rights of children, including the right to know their parents.
This came during the participation of MP Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al -Shuwaikh, and MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, in the meeting of the Standing Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, which was held today (Monday) within the work of the 150th General Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union, which is held in the city of Tashkent in the Republic of Uzbekistan, where the committee witnessed a preparatory discussion on the next decision on “recognizing and supporting the victims of international international adoption and taking measures to prevent this practice”, in addition to following up the implementation The committee’s decision regarding “trafficking in orphans and the role of parliaments in reducing damage.”
Al -Shuwaikh stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the leading countries in the field of protecting the rights of children, indicating that the child law criminalizes illegal adoption and prevents the child’s lineage to other than his parents, pointing to the need for parliaments and countries to take steps to confront the risks of illegal adoption, and the application of laws strictly, in addition to educating families and urging them to follow official procedures and tighten control over the role of orphans and unlicensed adoption organizations and promoting international cooperation to combat Trafficking in children.
Dr. Al -Shuwaikh considered that the world’s parliamentarians should be part of the international dialogue that contributes to enhancing cooperation between international organizations and governments, and working together to uncover illegal networks and operations across the border.
