Deputy Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al -Shuwaikh affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to work to reduce methane emissions, as it is one of the decisive paths to address the climate crisis, noting that the Kingdom adopts ambitious policies and practical steps in this field.
This came during the participation of the delegation of the Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by MP Dr. Mahdi Al -Shuwaikh, in a workshop organized by the International Parliamentary Union under the title: “Reducing methane gas emissions: a crucial path to address the climate crisis”, within the work of the 150th General Assembly of the Union in the city of Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.
In an intervention for his happiness, Dr. Al -Shuwaikh explained that the Kingdom of Bahrain announced its commitment to achieving the zero neutrality by 2060, reducing methane emissions by 30% by 2035, through an integrated national strategy that includes enhancing energy efficiency, relying on renewable sources, developing legislation to manage waste, reusing, and the circular economy of carbon.
Dr. Al -Shuwaikh pointed out the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of experiences between parliaments to develop legislation in support of climate change, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to implement specific projects that include reducing emissions in various sectors, including the energy, industry and transport sector.
Dr. Al -Shuwaikh added that international reports confirm that lowering methane gas can achieve immediate and effective results in reducing global warming, stressing that facing climate challenges requires integrated legislative and executive efforts at the national and international levels.
Dr. Al -Shuwaikh said that there is a need to adopt appropriate policies a balance between combating climate change and protecting livelihoods in the affected sectors, especially agricultural, indicating that climate challenges provide opportunities to develop modern agricultural techniques that reduce emissions, and use agricultural waste instead of burning or letting them decompose, and also reduce the burial of waste or to extract gas from them and use it for energy Development and reuse.
