In a move that reflects the creative intersection between contemporary art and auto sports, the Rashid Al Khalifa Foundation for the Arts with the Bahrain International Circuit, to decorate the tunnel wall leading to the media center within the activities of the Bahrain Grand Prix for Gulf Aviation Formula 1.
This artistic project is part of the initiatives of the Rashid Al Khalifa Foundation for the Arts aimed at supporting local artists by providing new spaces of a wide public nature to display their works, with the aim of expanding the scope of interaction between the public and art outside the classic frameworks of exhibitions.
The Foundation has assigned the implementation of the artwork to two of the most prominent artists of the graffiti in Bahrain, namely Mahmoud Al -Sharqawi, known as Huvil and Mustafa Al -Halaji, who covered more than 60 meters from the wall with drawings that combine Bahraini heritage and contemporary folk culture.
Al -Sharqawi, who started his artistic career in 2007, is known for his style that mixes Arabic phrases with heritage written elements, as well as being the founder of the ColourMaze store, the first store specialized in graffiti tools in Bahrain, through which he seeks to empower artists through workshops and applied experiences.
As for Al -Halwaji, his work extends in the streets of Bahrain and its prominent landmarks, among them “The Gulf of Bahrain” and the “The Merchant House” hotel, and its murals are distinguished by the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy and patterns inspired by traditional architecture. From a broader national strategy to enhance the cultural identity of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
