The Canadian government announced that it will start, from Wednesday, to impose customs duties by 25% on the import of some types of American cars, in response to a similar action taken by the United States.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney revealed this decision, on April 3, without specifying the date of its implementation at the time.

This move comes hours after the American administration imposed a similar tax on all imported cars, including those coming from Canada.

Earlier, Canada filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization against the backdrop of customs recognition imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump, on the imports of the auto sector, according to what the organization revealed, according to Agence France -Presse.

The organization stated in a statement that “Canada asked it to consults to resolve the conflict with the United States regarding the imposition of a 25 % tariff on cars and car cutting from Canada.”

The Canadian Prime Minister pledged, earlier, to respond to the customs duties imposed by Trump, considering that it would “radically change” international trade.

“We will address these customs duties with counter -procedures,” Carney said in Ottawa, saying that the drawings on steel, aluminum, and cars “will directly affect millions of Canadians.”
