In a scientific move that may make a radical transformation in the world of dentistry, researchers from Kings London announced their success for the first time in human development within the laboratory, which may pave the way for permanent treatment for dental loss without the need for fillings or industrial crops, according to the Independent.
The beginning of a new era in dentistry
The research, in cooperation with the Empire College London and took more than a decade, relied on developing a biological environment that mimics the natural conditions of teeth growth.
This development enabled the cells to send biological signals that lead to the start of the formation of the tooth from scratch, which restores hope for patients in the growth of new teeth naturally bypassing human restriction and simulating the ability of nature.
While some creatures, such as sharks and elephants, can replace their teeth frequently, a person is limited to only two groups during his life, and this discovery comes to overcome this biological barrier, by stimulating the patient’s stem cells to produce new teeth.
A safe and sustainable alternative to industrial teeth
Dr. Anna Angelova Volbone, head of the regenerative dental department in the college, confirmed that the cultivated teeth is a laboratory that has the ability to fully integrate with the jaw bones, and grows naturally without immune rejection, which makes them safer and effective than implants or fillings that may lead to complications over time.
Revolution in the treatment of damaged teeth
Researcher Xue Chang added that current implants and fillings are despite their usefulness, but they are temporary solutions and may lead to weakness of the tooth in the long run.
On the other hand, the teeth that are made a laboratory that provides a permanent biological therapy, in line with the nature of the body.
Two promising methods of application
The team is currently developing two ways to apply this discovery: the first by planting cells in the patient’s mouth to stimulate the tooth to grow in its place, and the second includes development of the entire tooth in the laboratory and then cultivating it later in the mouth. The researchers confirm that they are testing two methods to reach the best solution in terms of safety and effectiveness
The researchers believe that this progress represents a big step towards dentistry that depends on self -renewal, and it is boded for the possibility of dispensing permanently from temporary solutions such as fillings or plastic surgery. According to the team’s statements, the coming years may witness the beginning of a new era in which teeth grow again, as if they were not lost from the ground up.
