According to Reuters, the preliminary customs duties, which amounted to 10%, entered into force in the ports, airports and customs warehouses at 12:01 am EST.

“This is the largest monolithic business in our lives,” said Kelly Ann Show, a commercial lawyer at the Hugan Luvils Foundation and former White House commercial advisor during Trump’s first state.

She added during an event for the Brookings Foundation that she expects customs duties to develop over time, as countries seek to negotiate lower rates. “But this is tremendous. It is a fundamental and important transformation in the way we deal with each country on the face of the earth.”

On Wednesday, Trump’s announcement of the customs duties led to the confusion of global stock markets, as the Standard and Poor’s 500 index firms lost $ 5 trillion of their market value at the closure of Friday, which is a record decrease over two days. Oil and commodity prices fell, while investors resorted to government bonds as a safe haven. Among the countries that were first were asked to pay 10% customs duties, Australia, Britain, Colombia, Argentina, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The customs and American border protection bulletin directed at the shipping companies indicates that there is no period of grace for marine shipments at midnight on Saturday.

However, the American Customs and Border Protection Bulletin gave a 51 -day grace period for shipments loaded on ships or aircraft and heading to the United States before 12:01 am US time today, Saturday. These shipments must arrive at 12:01 am EST on May 27 to avoid 10%fees.

In the same hour on Wednesday, the “anti -” customs duties imposed by Trump, which ranges between 11% and 50%, will enter into force. Customs duties will be imposed by 20% on the imports of the European Union, while customs duties will be imposed by 34% on Chinese goods, bringing the total new fees that Trump imposed on China reaches 54%.
