The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee of the Shura Council, Dr. Ali Al -Rumaihi said that the language of numbers is reported that 70 people died after traffic accidents in Bahrain in 2023, which means that more than one person was killed weekly as a result of these accidents.
Al -Rumaihi stressed that discussing a draft law amending Article (56) of the Traffic Law comes within the framework of keenness to enhance traffic safety in the Kingdom, stressing that talking about traffic is a talk about part of the culture of the Bahraini citizen, who used to adhere to the laws and regulations.
And that the opinion of the committee comes not to agree to the project, due to the committee’s keenness on the safety of the lives and property of the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain and residents on the land of the Kingdom.
Al -Rumaihi explained that the language of numbers reveals great challenges facing the traffic system in Bahrain, pointing out that there are more than 770 thousand vehicles in the Kingdom, while in 2024, more than 17 thousand new cars had entered the country.
He said: “We are betting on the citizen’s awareness, and we also bet that the regimes be more assertive with road users.”
He added that traffic statistics for the month of June 2024 showed that 48% of the accidents were eloquent, and often lead to deaths, while excessive speed constituted 28% of the causes of accidents, and 24% due to the transcendence of the red signal, which reflects the need to strictly deal even with minor violations, in order to prevent the perpetuation of a culture of complacency.
He pointed out that in the year 2023, 70 deaths were recorded due to traffic accidents, which is equivalent to about one death per week, a number that calls for a serious stand from all relevant parties.
