Palestinian journalist Fatima Hassouna was killed after an Israeli raid targeting her house in northern Gaza, killing ten members of her family. Fatima, who is 25 years old, was devoted to documenting the details of daily life in Gaza, amid the bombing and the siege. The graduate of the University College of Applied Sciences in Gaza was not a mere photographer, but rather a visual witness of a reality whose cruelty is day after day. She published hours before she was killed by a picture of the sunset from the balcony of her house, and wrote: “It is the first sunset in a long time.”
I also wrote in a former publication: “As for mentioning the death that is inevitable, if I die a resounding death, I do not want me in an urgent news, nor in a number with a group, I want a death that the world hears, and an effect remains the extent of eternity, and immortal images that are not buried by time or the place.”
