Western extinguishes its lights and participates in the Earth Hour in support of the environment and the climate

Al -Gharbia Governorate participated, on Saturday evening, in the global initiative of Earth Hour, where the lights of the governorate’s general office and a number of public facilities and prominent landmarks were extinguished for an hour, from 8:30 until 9:30 pm, in the context of global efforts to rationalize energy consumption and face climate change.

Major General Ashraf Al -Jundi, the governor of Gharbia, stressed that this participation comes as an affirmation of the province’s commitment to contribute to preserving the environment, noting that the initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of rationalizing electricity consumption and reducing carbon emissions, which is one of the biggest environmental challenges facing the world today.

Preserving the environment and rationalizing energy

The soldier added that Gharbia, in coordination with the concerned authorities, extinguished the lights in the building of the governorate’s general office, in addition to a number of government institutions and the main streets, while encouraging citizens to participate by extinguishing the unnecessary lights in their homes, in order to spread the culture of rationalization and enhance positive behaviors to preserve natural resources.

The event witnessed a wide interaction from the people of Gharbia, who were keen to support the initiative by extinguishing unnecessary lights and electrical appliances, in a move that reflects the community’s awareness of the importance of reducing energy consumption.

This participation comes within the annual activities that aim to enhance environmental awareness, as more than 180 countries participate in this global event under the slogan together about the largest hour of the Earth.

The governor of Gharbia explained that the governorate will not be satisfied with this initiative, but will continue to work to enhance environmental awareness among citizens, through awareness programs and encourage the use of clean energy sources, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development.

Major General Ashraf Al -Jundi, Governor of Gharbia, thanked all the participating parties and citizens who interacted with the initiative, stressing that such events reflect society’s awareness of environmental issues and confirm Egypt’s pioneering role in facing climate changes, in line with its efforts to achieve sustainable development and preserve resources for future generations.
