French star Rafael Varane revealed the reasons for Real Madrid in 2021, after more than 10 years he spent inside the Royal Club, during which he achieved many major championships, most notably the Champions League and World Cup with France.
Varane explained, during his remarks on the “Bridge Show” program with his colleague, Urielian Chaamini, that he had reached a stage in which he needed to rethink his football career, where he said:
“When we were celebrating our fourth title in the Champions League, it was very normal to win the title and then ask you to come … After achieving the World Cup, I felt that I achieved everything and needed to try something new.”
Varane: I do not regret my decision to leave for Manchester United
On his decision to move to Manchester United, Varane confirmed:
“I wanted to live football in a different way, and in England, especially with Manchester United, the game lives with great passion and more closely to the fans, I do not regret anything.”
Varane retired from football in September 2024, after suffering a severe knee injury while playing with the Italian club Komo, who joined him after his departure from Manchester United.
