US President Donald Trump said at dawn on Monday that he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin tomorrow, Tuesday, adding: “We may announce something about Russia and Ukraine tomorrow.”
Trump spoke to reporters – on the body of the presidential plane during a flight to Washington from Florida – about “dividing some assets” between Russia and Ukraine, noting that lands and energy stations are the focus of agreement between Russia and Ukraine. He said: “A lot of work has been completed during the weekend … We want to see an end to this war.”
“We want to see if we can end that war. Perhaps we can, and perhaps not, but I think we have a very good opportunity,” the US President added.
When asked about the concessions being studied in the ceasefire negotiations, Trump said, “We will talk about the ground. We will talk about power stations.” He continued: “I think that many of these matters have already been discussed between the two sides, Ukraine and Russia. We are already talking about the division of some assets.”
Trump is trying to win Putin’s support for a 30 -day ceasefire proposal, which Ukraine accepted last week, while the two sides continued to exchange extensive air strikes at the beginning of the week, and Russia was close to expelling the Ukrainian forces from the region that has controlled it for months in Korsk in western Russia.
Trump believes that dealing with Ukraine is much more difficult than Russia. He held a tense meeting with Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski last month, which ended with the White House of Zelinski to leave before the talks ended.
But Ukraine’s acceptance of the proposed shooting ceasefire held Russia responsible for responding to Trump’s demands, and will test the American President’s positive view of Putin, who launched the Russian invasion of Ukraine three years ago.
