The Prime Minister participates in the activities of launching the second follow -up report on the implementation of the national platform of the Nawafi program

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, participated today, in the activities of the launch of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, the second follow -up report on the implementation of the national platform for the “Nawvi” program, the focus of linking between water, food and energy projects, as well as sustainable transport “Nuvi +”, through a round table, which is held under its patronage, and under the slogan “Two years of implementation”, in the new administrative capital, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, a number of ministers and parliamentarians, head of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and ambassadors of Germany, Canada and Norway to Cairo.

Also participated in the activities, ambassadors and heads of the missions of partner countries, representatives of international institutions, development partners, and a number of officials in the ministries and the concerned authorities.

At the beginning of the events, a collective memorial photo was taken that brought together the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, the Ministers, the representatives and heads of the missions of partner countries, international institutions, development partners, and companies implementing projects within the “Nawvi” platform.

Dr. Rania Al -Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, delivered a speech during the activities of the launch of the report, at the beginning of her welcome to the presence and participation of the Prime Minister, all ministers and members of parliament in his two chambers, ambassadors and heads of the partner countries’ missions, and representatives of international institutions.

Dr. Rania Al -Mashat indicated that this event comes to review the progress we made – for the second year in a row – in implementing the national platform projects – the (Nawvi) program, which represents one of the most important initiatives launched by Egypt during the climate work summit in 2022.

In the context of her speech, Dr. Rania Al -Mashat indicated that the Egyptian government has worked hard – during the past years – especially with its presidency of the COP27 climate conference, to provide an innovative, more inclusive and applicable mechanism in various economic and social systems, business and emerging markets, enhances the optimal use of development resources, and achieves flexibility in the face of climate changes – by focusing on human development in the introduction.

She added: Therefore, Egypt launched two initiatives for the Egyptian presidency, namely, “Sharm El Sheikh guide for fair financing” and the national platform – “Nawafi” program; With the aim of developing practical frameworks to move from the pledge stage to the implementation stage, with the participation of bilateral and multilateral development partners, pointing out that the activities will witness highlighting the most prominent achievements achieved at the level of each axis of the national platform of the November program.

After that, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development presented a summary of the Follow -up Report No. 2, which included a number of axes represented in: the global context, development and climate issues, and the local context: Egypt’s climatic efforts and obligations, the national platform for the (Noufi) program, in addition to the most important outputs related to projects and funds within the framework of the (Nawvi) program, then energy axes, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food, food. Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, delivered a speech during which he indicated the many challenges facing the water sector in Egypt, resulting from the limited water resources, population increase and climate change, pointing out that the “Novi” program supports all the eight axes of the second generation of irrigation system 2.0 such as projects: (The flexible management project is climatic of water and the ability to adapt to the climate at the field level in Wadi Al -Nile in cooperation With the Training Organization, which supports the rehabilitation of infrastructure at the field level and also supports communication with farmers, as well as the project to expand the scope of solar pumps to irrigation with Arab funding; with the aim of implementing the groundwater lifting depending on solar energy, along with the adaptation project in the northern delta affected by the high level of the sea in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the project of achieving flexibility in remote and more needy areas, in cooperation with the Islamic Bank For development.

Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stressed during his speech that the agricultural sector is the cornerstone of building sustainable diets, noting that the “Novey” program pays special attention to the food axis, as it includes 9 projects, 5 of which are dedicated to supporting agriculture and enhancing the ability of agricultural lands to adapt to climatic changes, pointing at the same time to the efforts made in adopting smart climate agricultural practices, and using Early climate alarm systems to protect small farmers from the consequences of climate change.

The team, Eng. Kamel Al -Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, delivered a speech during which he explained that in light of the comprehensive national strategy that Egypt set up until 2050, including a group of priority projects (26 projects) until 2030, the three main pillars cover climate work: mitigation, adaptation and flexibility with a focus on a fair transfer of the green economy, through the axis of the relationship between energy, food and water.

In this context, the team, Kamel, explained that, considering the transportation sector the main artery through which all the axes of agricultural, industrial, urban, and tourism development flow, it was important to include transportation within the system of the “Novi” program to serve all the target sectors of the program, and therefore the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, in coordination with the national authorities (Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) launched a program (Nawvi+), which includes the sustainable transport axis; Where this axis aims to support the Egyptian government’s efforts to create an integrated network of green sustainable transportation.
