Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, held a meeting to follow up on the procedures for updating the sports form for Ribasim Water Management by integrating the standards of water quality into the Ribasim-Delwa Model.
Dr. Sweilem stated that the use of the Ribasim model is an important step in the process of developing the water distribution system, and the start of the transformation procedures from the use of levels to the use of behaviors in water management and distribution, in addition to the importance of the Ribasim-Delwa model in following up the evaluation of the water quality elements in canals and drains.
The Minister of Irrigation added that the development of the model to include the monitoring and evaluation of the quality and quality of water along the water streams serves the targets of expansion in the treatment and reuse of agricultural wastewater, which is one of the most important axes of the second generation of the Egyptian irrigation system 2.0.
Dr. Swailem directed that the model be developed to become a practical applied model that can be easily used in water management through the Central Water Distribution Administration, in addition to using it as a tool for water resource management planning through the ministry planning sector.
Dr. Swailem also directed to continue checking the data that is used in the model, and providing him with more data available to the various authorities of the Ministry to improve and audit the results issued by the model.
During the meeting, the evaluation of the current situation of the water resources system in terms of behaviors and water quality, activities related to the water balance, the uses of agricultural lands, cropped installation, drinking water needs, industry, etc., and evaluating the impact of future strategies on water management and distribution and water quality.
It is worth noting that this model is implemented through a study that is funded within the activities of the “Applied Research Program between Egypt and the Netherlands” in coordination with the Dutch Dutch Foundation, and 12 engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the National Water Research Center have previously been trained to use this model.
