The International Criminal Court arrested former Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte, after issuing an arrest warrant against him accusing him of crimes against humanity during bloody repression campaigns to combat drugs he supervised during his office.
Duterte is the first former Asian leader arrested by the International Criminal Court, which is the last sedate court of trial in international crime cases such as genocide and crimes against humanity, as the court specializes in considering cases when countries are unable or unwilling to try crimes on their lands.

The International Criminal Court undertakes the trial of major crimes such as war crimes and genocide, and the number of member states of the court reached 125 countries after Ukraine joined last January.
Since its foundation, the court has issued 60 arrest warrants and convicted 11 people, and among the most prominent cases that the court was considered, the condemnation of the Congolese war, Thomas Le Polanga, was in 2012 on charges of recruiting children, and the condemnation of the Ugandan commander Dominique Unguen in 2021 for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
