The Syrian newspaper “Al -Watan” reported the arrest of the former Syrian Mufti Ahmed Badr al -Din Hassoun after the issuance of an arrest warrant from the Public Prosecutor at the Syrian Ministry of Justice.
The newspaper published a picture of a search memorandum, and arrested Hassoun after submitting a complaint against him.
The Syrian social media pages circulated a picture of the previous mufti, and said that Hassoun was arrested at Damascus International Airport before his travel and his escape out of the country.
After the overthrow of the Assad regime, activists circulated pictures in which Hassoun appeared in the French city of Strasbourg, which sparked speculation about his escape, but this was not true, as sources confirmed that the photos were taken in 2007.
