Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, the Central Unit to participate with the private sector in the Ministry of Finance, and the General Authority of the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, in order to include the project to establish a seawater desalination plant in Ain Sokhna within the water axis in the “Nawvi” program.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Rania Al -Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Ahmed Kajuk, Minister of Finance, Walid Jamal El Din, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, within the framework of promoting water sustainability and providing new sources of fresh water to support major industrial projects.
The project aims to produce one million cubic meters per day of clean water, as the first phase was launched with a capacity of 250 thousand cubic meters per day through a tender for the partnership system between the public and private sectors, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Partnership Unit at the Ministry of Finance.
The project is an essential pillar in supporting and meeting the needs of current and future industrial and investment projects in the economic zone of the Suez Canal, especially in light of the expansion of green hydrogen projects, which require sustainable water sources.
This step reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing water security, supporting green transformation plans, and taking advantage of modern technology in desalination to keep pace with the increasing demand for water resources, in line with the national vision of sustainable development 2030.
