Today, Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, chaired the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Supreme Council of Antiquities at the Ministry’s headquarters in the government district in the new administrative capital.
The minister started the meeting by welcoming the members of the Council and congratulating them on the coming of Eid Al -Fitr.

Sherif Fathi was also keen to welcome and congratulate Dr. Sharif Gamal Abdel -Gawad, Secretary -General of the New Tourism and Antiquities Support Fund, and Engineer Ahmed Youssef, Acting CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Activation, after they occupied these two positions, expressing his wishes for success and payment in what is coming, expressing his confidence in completing the march of successes that were accomplished during the last period.
The Minister also thanked and appreciated Amr Al -Qadi, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for the former tourism activation for his distinguished efforts and his tireless and fruitful work during his tenure, wishing him success in all that is coming.
During the meeting, the minutes of the previous session were ratified, and the financial position of the Supreme Council of Antiquities was reviewed during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2024-2025.
Then Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary -General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, reviewed the work and projects implemented in the various sectors of the Supreme Council of Antiquities during the month of February, including many archaeological discoveries, cleaning, maintenance and restoration projects that are carried out in various archaeological sites at the level The project of restoring the dome of Yahya Al -Shabahi in the Caliph area in Cairo and its readiness for the opening, as well as the Egyptian Antiquities Record Center inspected a number of archaeological graves in the western mainland in the city of Luxor in preparation for the implementation of architectural lifting and digital photography work for it, in addition to the completion of the scientific registration work of the Nafar Hattib Cemetery in the Khokha area in Luxor.
During the meeting, the council was briefed on the great turnout in the “Ramses and the Pharaohs” exhibition, as nearly 25 thousand tickets were sold during the first week of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and the mayor of the city of Tokyo in Japan to open it on March 7.
At the end of the meeting, the members of the Council approved a number of decisions, including the recommendations of the negotiating and evaluation committee regarding offers to provide and operate services in archaeological sites and museums, taking all legal measures and taking into account the rules followed in this regard, and agreeing to establish two temporary exhibitions of antiquities in Italy and Hong Kong, which works to promote the Egyptian tourism destination in these markets.
