Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, held a meeting to follow up the position of developing the irrigation and drainage system in the Siwa Oasis, during the meeting, the current position of the irrigation and drainage system was presented in the Siwa Oasis, and the reduction of water levels in Baraka Siwa to the safe levels, and the position of starting in the third stage of the project, which aims to reduce water levels in Baraka Bahi El Din in Siwa Oasis.
Dr. Swailem continuously directed the follow -up of all procedures and work being implemented in the oasis, continuing to read water levels, activating dependence on the delimite system in following up the levels of the oasis, completing the plan to close the random surface wells that are with the overflowing of the groundwater, and taking immediate legal measures to close any new violations well Water use.
Dr. Sweilem stated that the current development work is carried out in integration between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces and the College of Engineering at Cairo University and in full coordination with the people of the oasis, indicating that the development work enables the oasis restoration of its environmental balance, and achieve a balance between water withdrawal rates and achieve safe levels of agricultural drainage in the oasis, and recover the oasis for its well -being after improving the condition of agricultural lands that It has deteriorated over the past years.
He explained that the work of digging an open channel has been completed with a length of 33.70 km to transport agricultural wastewater to the number of five agricultural banks leading to the Siwa blessing and transferred to the depression of Ain Al -Janabi, east of the oasis through the upload station, which pumped agricultural wastewater through a 5.70 km length channel that reaches the open channel.
The excavation of 12 deep wells to produce fresh water from the Nubian sandstone tank was completed with the water of the surface wells, and in return, many ground wells were closed that were withdrawing the water from the surface underground tank.
Acts were also carried out to strengthen, rally and support (4) bridges around the Siwa Baraka in order to reduce the damage caused by the rise in water levels during the past years, which negatively affected some agricultural lands, buildings and tourist facilities overlooking the lake.
Work is underway to construct a lifting station to transport part of Baraka Bahi Al -Din water to the Ain Al -Janabi resorting to integrate with what was implemented in Siwa in cooperation with the water department of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces.
