Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, announced the formation of a legal committee to study the features of a new law to regulate domestic workers, with the aim of providing a safe work environment that protects this group of harassment and bullying, and ensuring a legal framework that enjoys everyone.
Preparing a new law to protect domestic workers
Gibran confirmed, during a television interview, on Saturday evening, that the state is working to organize the domestic labor market by issuing work permits, stressing that no foreign worker will be allowed to work without an official permit.
He explained that there are efforts to facilitate procedures and absorb domestic workers in a clear legislative framework, while awaiting the issuance of the new law to regulate the process of registration of domestic workers formally.
The Minister of Labor pointed out that some foreign workers enter the country with tourist visas and then operate in homes illegally, stressing that the new law and the executive regulations will address this problem to control the market.
He added that the legal age of work will not be less than 14 or 15 years, and domestic workers will be included in the labor law to ensure their rights and protection.
Gibran stressed that the ministry is following the advertisements spread through social media, warning citizens of the fake entities that exploit domestic workers, and calling on everyone to adhere to the new laws to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
