Electricity: The government supports the service at 217 million dinars annually
The Parliamentary Facilities and Environment Committee approved the proposal with a desire for the government to double the shares of the subsidized units when calculating the electricity tariff in the event of more than one family in one house, provided that the relationship between them and the holder of the account is of the first degree, and that the number of shares supported is not more than three, during the months from May to September.
The proposal includes the desire for the esteemed government to double the shares of the subsidized units when calculating the electricity tariffs in the event of more than one family living in one house, provided that the relationship of kinship between them and the holder of the account is of the first degree, and the number of shares supported is not exceeding three shares, so that each family has a separate share of the subsidized units added to the basic share, so that the three category is doubled for one of the unit of one of the unit of one of the unit. 3000 units to 6000 units in the event of two families at home, and to 9000 units in the event of three families, and the nine categories and sixteen fils double in the same way, thus there are three shares with a maximum of consumers from the home consumption category for the Bahraini subscriber at one expense.
The Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs indicated the difficulty of applying the proposal on the ground in terms of technology and work mechanism, as the size of families changes constantly, and does not settle in a state, as the response to the aforementioned proposal would violate the financial balance program, which requires increasing the efficiency of the Electricity and Water Authority to achieve a balance between its revenues and expenses, and hinders the authority’s plans to raise the efficiency of performance and provide better services to consumers. The Ministry made many clarifications, including:
1- The current tariff for Bahraini is a single account with the real cost of production, with the support of the first tranche to (90%) of the cost of delivering the service to the subscriber, and it is classified from the least in the Gulf countries.
2- The Authority buys electricity from the private sector companies producing and selling it to consumers, especially the Bahraini account, with symbolic prices far from its real value as a result of the great support that the government provides for this service, which reaches 217 million dinars annually, knowing that the purchase prices from the private sector have increased with the increase in gas prices, while the prices that electricity for citizens are constant, which means increasing government support with the same percentage annually, and that the authority is obligated By paying the value of what you buy within a maximum period of 42 days, and it can only pay what it has through what it obtains from the subscribers, as government support is dedicated to Bahraini consumption in its first residence on the basis of the applicable tariff.
