The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology has announced the opening of progress to establish the Salama and Security Center for AI in the Higher Education and Scientific Research Sector,
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, stressed that the launch of the center comes within the framework of the state’s efforts to develop responsible artificial intelligence, as it will contribute to achieving the utmost benefit from this technology in academic and research circles with limiting potential risks, which enhances Egypt’s position between the leading countries in this field, and this comes in line with the second publication of the national strategy of artificial intelligence, which the National Council for Artificial Intelligence announced to issue in January 2025.
Aasour added in a statement today, that the center aims to strengthen Egypt’s position at the forefront of developed countries in developing responsible artificial intelligence, and ensuring that its benefits are achieved in academic circles, while reducing potential risks. This comes in line with the second edition of the national strategy for artificial intelligence, which the National Council for Artificial Intelligence announced in January 2025.
He continued: The center will specialize in supporting research in the field of safety and security of artificial intelligence, establishing a database for specialized Egyptian researchers, and providing specialized consultations and training, as well as strengthening international cooperation with relevant international organizations and institutions. The center will also registrate high -risk artificial intelligence systems used in the higher education and scientific research sector, and to promote safety standards and practices in this field.
It is worth noting that the center aims to achieve long -term sustainability by launching training programs and workshops, participating in formulating artificial intelligence policies, and enhancing cooperation with government agencies, industry partners and civil society organizations to ensure the integration of national and international efforts in this field.
The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology calls on the academic institutions approved in Egypt to submit its proposals to establish the center, to include a specialized teams in the field of artificial intelligence safety and security, as well as a clear plan for employment and performance indicators for measuring success.
