Resolution makers in the health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain discussed the future strategic directions of King Abdullah Medical City, stressing the need to align their strategies with the Bahraini and Gulf health system, with the aim of bridging service gaps and enhancing the centers of excellence for specialized health care. This came during a dialogue workshop organized by the Arab Gulf University in Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Hall, where a group of doctors and specialists met to discuss the prospects for health development in the Kingdom.
In his opening speech, Dr. Ghazi bin Abdul Rahman Al -Otaibi, Vice President of the Arab Gulf University for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, stressed the university’s commitment to enhance the quality of health services, in a manner that ensures the provision of advanced medical care in accordance with the highest international standards, stressing that the Bahraini and Gulf citizen remains at the top of priorities. He explained that the partnership between decision makers contributes to improving the level of health care, by keeping pace with technological developments and innovations in the medical field.
Dr. Al -Otaibi pointed out that King Abdullah Medical City focuses on providing accurate, fast and safe health services, while ensuring sustainability and high quality, by employing modern medical techniques, such as artificial intelligence, distance medicine, and advanced surgical techniques, which contributes to improving diagnosis, treatment and promotion of public health.
For his part, Dr. Shaher Al -Shehri, head of the King Abdullah Medical City Unit, explained that the workshop witnessed the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Supreme Council of Health, the National Authority for Regulating Health and Health Services, in addition to experts from the University Medical Center in King Abdullah Medical City, and the Princess Al -Jawhara Center for Molecular Medicine, Genetic Sciences and Genetic Diseases. He stressed that the discussions resulted in important recommendations and proposals to enhance coordination between health authorities, exchange experiences and best medical practices, with the aim of developing the medical city and integrating its services with the health system in the Kingdom.
In a related context, Dr. Zubaydah Abdullah Al Sheikh, Head of the Health Facilities Regulatory Sector at the National Authority for Regulating Health and Health Services, presented a presentation of the latest statistics and information about the health sector in Bahrain, while Dr. Fatima Reda Habil, head of the Department of Health Promotion Programs at the Ministry of Health, addressed the Ministry’s strategy in developing the health system, by implementing comprehensive protective programs aimed at reducing chronic diseases and promoting public health.
The workshop concluded with an expanded dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing the Bahraini health system, and the importance of integration between the various actors to enhance the role of King Abdullah Medical City as a specialized medical institution. Participants stressed the need to develop centers of excellence in various medical specialties, improve infrastructure, and train medical cadres in a sustainable way, with a focus on scientific research and innovation to support the provision of advanced medical solutions.
At the end of the discussions, a set of recommendations were agreed upon that will be the basis for future plans to develop King Abdullah Medical City. The King Abdullah Medical City Unit at the Arab Gulf University will study these recommendations deeply, in preparation for their implementation, reflecting the aspirations of the university and Bahraini and Gulf community towards a more sophisticated and sustainable health system.
