European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup launched a historical increase in the number of seats

Today, the European qualifying qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup will start today, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, amid historical changes, most notably the number of participating teams to 48 teams, raising the seats of the European continent from 13 to 16 seats.

The teams were divided into 12 groups, as the first four groups include only four teams, due to the participation of their teams in the final rounds of the European Nations League, while the rest of the groups consist of five teams.

The leader of each group qualifies directly to the World Cup, while the second -ranked teams, along with the four best teams in the European Nations League, will run a continental attaché in March 2026 to determine the remaining four seats.

Among the most prominent matches today, England faces its Albanian counterpart, while Poland meets Lithuania and Romania with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cyprus also begins its career by meeting San Marino, and Andorra plays against Latvia, and Malta against Finland.

It is noteworthy that the qualifiers will continue until November 2025, before it was resided in the decisive annex in March 2026, as part of an exciting race towards reserving the qualification cards for the largest World Cup in history.
