Astronomical studies show that the holiday crescent will remain visible in the sky of Makkah Al -Mukarramah for 7 minutes after sunset, while it remains in the sky of Cairo for 11 minutes, which enhances the chances of seeing the crescent in several Arab countries.

Seeing the crescent of Shawwal in Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia depends on determining the date of Eid Al -Fitr on the legal vision that takes place through Al -Tarwai committees spread in various regions, according to the legal controls determined by the Supreme Court, and includes the following:

  • The crescent is investigated after sunset on Saturday, 29 Ramadan 1446 AH.
  • The official announcement depends on the certificates of the users who can see the crescent with the naked eye or using astronomical devices.
  • If the crescent is not possible, Ramadan will be completed 30 days, so that Eid al -Fitr will be on Monday, March 31, 2025.
  • The final result will be announced on the evening of the 29th of Ramadan through an official statement from the Supreme Court in the Kingdom.

Arab countries and capitals that can see the crescent

The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research announced that the Hilal Shawwal 1446 AH will be visible in a number of Arab and Islamic capitals on March 29, 2025, and includes:

  1. North Africa: Algeria, Tunisia, Tripoli, Marrakech, Fez, Nouakchott, Lagos.
  2. The Middle East: Riyadh, Makkah Al -Mukarramah, Al -Madinah Al -Munawwarah, Jerusalem, Baghdad, Amman, Damascus, Aden, Ankara.
  3. Arab Gulf: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Manama, Kuwait, Muscat.
  4. Africa and the African Horn: Khartoum, Mogadishu, Jizan.

Despite the accurate astronomical estimates, the official announcement of the Eid al -Fitr date remains fully dependent on the legal vision approved by the Saudi judiciary and the date is announced through the Supreme Court through official media such as Saudi TV and the Saudi Press Agency “SPA”.
