Some are acceptable to eat very quickly and without good chewing, which may cause many health problems ranging from digestive disorders, weight gain to risk of heart health and metabolism, according to Cleveland Clinic.

1- Weight gain and obesity

Eating quickly may lead to weight gain, as the brain needs about 20 minutes to send satiety signals, and when eating large quantities quickly, the person has consumed extra calories before he realizes his feeling of satiety, and studies indicate that people who eat quickly are more likely to develop obesity compared to those who eat slowly.

2- Digestive disorders and indigestion

Failure to chew the food well leads to an increase in the burden on the stomach, which may cause indigestion, bloating, gases, and heartburn, and swallowing air while eating quickly can cause discomfort and digestive disorders.

3- Increased risk of metabolic syndrome

Eating food is quickly associated with high risk of metabolic syndrome, a group of symptoms that include high blood pressure, increased fat in the abdomen, high blood sugar levels, and a low level of good cholesterol, and these factors are one of the main causes of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

4- The risk of suffocating

Eating quickly without chewing sufficiently increases the risk of suffocation, especially in children and the elderly, as food may be suspended in the throat without the person being able to swallow easily.

5- Reducing the efficiency of absorption of nutrients

Good chewing plays an important role in preparing food for digestion, and when eating quickly, the digestive system does not give the opportunity to effectively absorb the nutrients, which may affect the general health of the body and lead to malnutrition in the long run.
