The new version of Snow White focused on Snow White’s ambition to become a leader for its people, ignoring the romantic aspects, which distinguished the original story, and this dramatic transformation sparked widespread controversy, as some considered it an unjustified change that harmed the magic of the story.
One of the most prominent modifications that shocked viewers in the movie Snow White was to rewrite the lyrics of classic songs, as the two famous songs “Height-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work” were subjected to great changes, while the song “Somiday My Prince Will Come” was removed, and instead, I added. New songs such as “Waiting on A Wish” and “Princess Problems”, but they failed to compensate for the original atmosphere that the audience loved.
Canceling the role of the prince and replacing him with a new personality
In a surprising step, the prince’s character was completely deleted from the story, to be replaced by Jonathan, a thief from the forest that appears for the first time when he is caught while stealing food from the castle to help the poor, and the relationship between him and Snow White develops, until he becomes the one who publicly removes the talisman with a magic kiss, which changes the course of the traditional story.
A new end of the evil queen
In the new version, the evil queen is no longer subject to the terrible fall as in the original story. After her success in poisoning Snow White, she returns to the castle convinced of her victory. But when Jonathan succeeds in awakening Snow White with the help of the dwarves, they face the queen together and when she discovers through her magic mirror that Snow White is still the most beautiful, combing anger and breaks the mirror herself, which leads to her disappearance due to her own charm.
The disappearance of the glass coffin
Among the most traumatized changes is the abolition of the glass coffin, which is an essential element in the classic version, instead of keeping the dwarfs with the Snow White body in the Crystal coffin, they put it on a isolated rock in the forest, surrounded by flowers, which gives the story a completely different dramatic touch.
Different reactions from the audience
Although the film tries to make a new and contemporary vision, the big changes were not widely welcomed. Many viewers felt that the spirit of the original story was completely lost, while others considered that this version presented a new view that suits the modern era.
