The Egyptian football derby match between Al -Ahly and Zamalek, which was scheduled for Tuesday evening, was canceled at Cairo International Stadium after the Red Team refrained from attending in protest against the support of the match for a local arbitration team.
Zamalek came to confront Al -Ahly, who was absent from the Cairo Stadium to cancel the referee Mahmoud Bassiouni, the summit 15 minutes after its launch, as the Egyptian League’s list stipulates this season.
The match was in the first round of the second stage of the Egyptian Premier League football competitions, and before its date witnessed a protest from Al -Ahly club regarding the match’s refereeing staff.
The crisis began, according to Egyptian media, with the assignment of the Football Association to manage the arbitration match to referee Mahmoud Bassiouni, with a fully local crew, which caused great anger at Al -Ahly club, which held an emergency meeting earlier on Tuesday, ended with refusing to play the summit match against Zamalek if foreign referees were not brought in, with the threat to withdraw from the Egyptian League competition.
Zamalek announced that the first team bus arrived at Cairo Stadium, and then revealed the formation that begins Al -Ahly.
As for Al -Ahly, his bus headed to the club’s branch in Nasr City in order to perform warm -up operations instead of going to Cairo Stadium.
Zamalek issued an official statement in which he adhered to the holding of the summit in front of Al -Ahly on time, with the same arbitration team.
By the date of the match at nine thirty local time, Zamalek appeared on the ground of the Cairo stadium with the arbitration crew, while Al -Ahly was absent to wait for the referee for 15 minutes before announcing the cancellation of the summit.
It is expected that Al-Ahly will be considered defeated (3-0) against Zamalek, according to the regulations, with the deduction of 3 points from its balance in the Egyptian league this season.
