Barcelona has opened the door for negotiations with Polish goalkeeper Fuchk Chesney, to extend his contract, which ends in June 2025, after his remarkable brilliance with the team in recent months.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, the club’s sports director, Portuguese Deco, contacted Cheesney agents to discuss the possibility of extending his contract until the summer of 2026, with the option to extend for a season or two additional seasons, provided that both parties agree.
Barcelona had contracted with Chesney in a short -term deal to compensate for the absence of German goalkeeper Mark Andre Ter Stegen, who was injured in the cruciate ligament last October.
But the Polish goalkeeper quickly proved his worth, and became an essential element in the formation of coach Hans Felk, and even one of the team’s leaders inside the dressing room.
Cheesney welcomes the idea of staying in Barcelona, especially with Felk’s dependence mainly, while the Catalan administration is seeking to keep him in anticipation of the departure of alternative goalkeeper Inaka Benia, and the lack of clarity in the level of Ter Stegen after recovering from injury.
Chesney had previously confirmed that he was not thinking about retiring soon, even if he left Barcelona at the end of his current contract.
