A lawyer who is beaten before Sharia courts and “lawyers” denounces and calls for the protection of the profession

The Bahraini Lawyers Association issued a statement condemning the grave attack that a lawyer was subjected to while performing his profession inside the Sharia court building, affiliated with the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments.

In its statement, the association emphasized that this attack cannot be considered a simple accident, but rather a serious attack on the independence of the legal profession, stressing the need to take the firm legal measures by the executive and judicial authorities to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

The association called for the issuance of a law law that preserves the rights of lawyers, and criminalizes any attacks on them or their offices during their practice of their tasks, similar to what is in place in many Gulf and Arab countries. She also stressed the importance of align local laws with international treaties and agreements ratified by the Kingdom of Bahrain, to ensure a safe work environment for lawyers.

The association affirmed the continuation of its efforts in appealing to the official and legislative authorities to fill the legal gaps that may allow such encroachments, and work to enhance the status of law as a basic pillar in achieving justice and protecting rights.

For his part, the head of the Bahraini Lawyers Association, Salah Al -Midfa, explained that the attacked lawyer was in charge of defending a wife in a legal case, and within the building of the Sharia courts was subjected to violent assault by the husband, which is the other party in the case. The cannon indicated that the attack resulted in the injury of the lawyer in the head and bleeding, which necessitated his transfer to the hospital for treatment, while the aggressor was arrested.
