Messages on a French researcher’s phone, in which he criticized the policies of US President Donald Trump by preventing him from entering the United States.
The media reported that the American authorities prevented a French researcher from entering the country earlier in March, after immigration employees searched and found in his phone messages in which the Trump administration criticized.
For his part, French Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Philip Babetet, said in a statement: “I learned with concern that a French researcher was on a mission to the French National Center for Scientific Research, and he was traveling to attend a conference near Houston, which was prevented from entering the United States before his expulsion.”
The minister added: “The American authorities apparently took this measure because the researcher’s phone included correspondence with colleagues and friends, in which he expressed his personal opinion on the policy of scientific research pursued by the Trump administration.”
In a statement to “Agence France Presse”, a French diplomatic source said that the incident took place on March 9.
Another source said that the American authorities accused the French researcher of “spreading hatred and conspiracy messages.”
Reports said he was informed of an investigation by the FBI, but “the charges were dropped before his expulsion” from the United States.
