With the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, the feelings of longing and desire to strengthen our connection with God Almighty are renewed in our hearts, and the investment of his days and nights in everything that brings us closer to it and elevates our souls, while our life is accelerating and our electronic connections are exacerbated. Smartphones – thanks to the large number of applications and means of communication – have shifted from just a means of communication to a lieutenant, we find it near us more than we sit with our families and friends. How can this digital link to an advantage that helps us to invest the holy month instead of stealing our time?
The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “The man is on the religion of his succession, so that one of you see those who are devoted” (Narrated by Abu Dawood and Al -Tirmidhi). Hence, we realize how the owner has a great impact on our lives and behaviors, as the companion affects without feeling, and good companionship rises to us for the best always. Likewise, in the world of technology, we have to pay attention and carefully choose those who accompany us in our devices from digital applications and contents, because its impact is great, it may raise us or distract our attention and delay our goals.
In our digital world today, we notice a great diversity in applications of a religious and cultural nature, which are easily available to everyone. In addition to the well -known applications of the Noble Qur’an, there are applications that provide recitations with several voices, and provide simplified explanations and an interactive interpretation. We also find programs for Ramadan time management, and applications to remind us of dates of dhikr or daily roses from the Qur’an. In addition to the Islamic content directed to adults, creative applications dedicated to children emerged, combining entertainment and religious education, so that they can learn about the principles of Islam in a fun fictional style.
However, this technical abundance leads us to the responsibility of choice; Just as these applications can elevate us spiritually and morally, there are also programs and contents that drain our ages in what is not useful. Therefore, the “digital companion” may be a chapter of good if we are keen to select what is useful, and it may turn into an obstacle that hinders our progress if we fall into the trap of addiction to the communication platforms and the distracting recreational contents of the mind.
Technology ultimately tool, we who define its use. From this standpoint, the month of Ramadan can become a completely different experience: a month in which we rearrange our phones and electronic accounts, and we wipe what we do not need, and we add innovative applications that help us focus on acts of worship and performance of obedience. However, we should realize that technology, no matter how long it is, will not suffice alone to complete our spiritual career without personal effort and persistence in commitment.
Let’s make Ramadan an opportunity to renew the intentions, and we deal with our devices wisely and true. Every notice brings us either to support our relationship with God and add to our cognitive and spiritual balance, or distract us from our goals and distract our attention.
