On Tuesday, Starmer announced an increase in annual defense spending, in a move aimed at reassuring US President Donald Trump about Britain’s ability to enhance European security, to be funded by this increase by reducing the foreign aid budget from 0.5% of GDP to 0.3%.
Humanitarian organizations expressed their shock and dissatisfaction with this decision, warning that it will harm Britain’s influence and will have a devastating impact on the beneficiaries of this aid.
Resignation message
In her resignation message, which she posted on the “X” platform, Dodz confirmed that the volume of discounts makes it impossible to maintain the priorities of British development, including in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine.
“Ultimately, these cuts will deprive desperate people of food and health care, which will harm the UK reputation,” Duds wrote in her letter.
She added: “I know that you have made it clear that you are not an opponent in principle for international development, but the reality is that this decision is already seen as a simulation of President Trump’s policies on reducing the funding of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).”
