Margaret Safim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, held a meeting with Karima Noureddine, the official of the Child work program at the International Labor Organization, Dr. Engy Mohamed, a consultant at the International Labor Organization, Dua Muhammad, a consultant at the International Labor Organization, and Reem Kamal, a consultant at the International Labor Organization, To discuss the proposed executive plan based on the results of studying the needs of the children’s work controls, which took place in cooperation between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the International Labor Organization. This is in the presence of Majdi Helmy, Advisor to the Minister of Social Solidarity, Mona Al -Shabrawi, Head of the Central Administration of Family and Children, Dr. Hanem Omar, Director General of the General Administration of Children, and Arwa Ahmed, Director General of the General Administration of Women.
Solidarity and the International Labor Organization are looking to enhance areas of cooperation in the field of combating children’s work
The meeting dealt with strengthening areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the International Labor Organization, especially in the field of combating children’s work through the project to combat children’s work implemented by the organization in four governorates: “Cairo, Qaliubiya, Western, Assiut”, and the implementation plan for a number of workshops and training for workers in departments The directorates are on the national plan to combat children’s work and family empowerment. The provision of logistical support needed to activate the role of the administration concerned with combating children’s work and linking it to the centers of the working child was also discussed.
The meeting also reviewed the development of awareness materials on the issues of combating children’s work, the importance of education, economic empowerment, and the various services provided by the Ministry of Social Solidarity to the First Families, in addition to coordination to discuss mechanisms for updating quality standards for children’s work control centers and supporting NGOs working in this field. Where partner societies target the families of children working or at risk of leaking education in the targeted centers, limiting their needs to provide awareness services to them, re -enrolling children to education and vocational training for children over the training age, as well as economic empowerment of families.
Representatives of the International Labor Organization pointed to the implementation of training trainers targeting from 35 to 50 social pioneers in the targeted governorates of the project, on developed awareness materials, coordination and referral mechanisms for the centers of the working child. An awareness material that includes brochures and guidelines is also designed and produced to support the implementation of field campaigns through pioneers and partner NGOs, mainly targeting the families of working children, solidarity and dignity families. Training will also be implemented targeting Islamic and Christian clerics to raise awareness of the issue of child labor.
The meeting emphasized the support of the participation of 3000 children working or at risk in the targeted governorates, in sports and awareness activities implemented in partnership with partner societies.
