Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, issued a decision to reshape a specialized committee to register animal and poultry production strains, in the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance animal production and ensure the quality of local and imported breeds.
The committee is chaired by Adel Abdel -Azim, head of the Agricultural Research Center, and includes a group of experts and specialists in the fields of animal production and animal and veterinary health, as well as representatives of Egyptian universities and the competent research authorities.
The Minister of Agriculture stressed that this decision reflects the ministry’s keenness to develop the livestock sector and achieve a balance between production and consumption, noting that improving animal and poultry breeds will contribute to increasing production rates, raising the efficiency of farms, and reducing dependence on import, which supports the national economy.

The minister added that the committee will work according to an accurate scientific approach, taking into account the environmental and health aspects, to ensure the sustainability of animal production, and to achieve the maximum possible benefit from the available resources.
The decision comes within the framework of Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to enhance sustainable development in the agricultural sector, and to achieve food security through the application of the latest scientific methods in the field of animal production.
For his part, the head of the Agricultural Research Center said that the decision comes within the framework of the efforts made to improve the efficiency of animal and poultry production and improve the level of breeds used in Egypt, whether local or imported, in a way that contributes to achieving self -sufficiency and supporting the Egyptian national economy, research centers, and competent bodies.
The committee is scheduled to start its work immediately, as it will start reviewing the current strains and updating the data related to them, in addition to receiving requests to register the new breeds from the relevant authorities, and the committee will submit periodic reports to the ministry that include its recommendations and future plans to develop the sector.
